The Duces and the
Magic Diamonds
Once upon a time, a husband and a wife lived in a
town. They owned a very expensive
jewelry store in the middle of the town.
Mr. and Mrs. Duce were both fat as pigs, rich as bishops, and as
repulsive as trolls. They did not think
they were ugly or fat but knew they were rich.
The Duces
lived separately. Mrs. Duce slept
upstairs while Mr. Duce slept downstairs because somebody had told them they
couldn’t both be upstairs together for too long. Their combined weight was too much for the second
floor to support them. The shop below
would be crushed by them. When they heard
these words they kicked the person out.
They ate
the magical diamonds as food. Lee made and sold it to them. (Lee was the old, skinny, and wrinkly chef
for the town. Lee only sold these
diamonds to the Duces. Also Lee cooked for everyone in town.) When they were eating the magical diamonds,
they became fatter.
The only
time the Duces lost any weight was when they pooped. Depending on what kind of poop came out,
different jewelry was “made.” They
“produced” rings, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings in this way. They can make designs by looking at a picture
while they are “making” the jewelry.
The people
in the town did not know about the magic diamonds or about how their jewelry
was made. Lee knew about all of this.
One day a
handsome prince with short brown hair came into the jewelry store asking for a
diamond ring to be made so he can propose to his love, the princess. He told them the design and size that he
wanted. He also told them it needed to
be made with platinum. Mrs. Duce told
the prince that it would be almost impossible to get a platinum ring with the
design he requested. The prince said, “Aren’t
you jewelers? Aren’t you supposed to be able to craft it?” Mr. Duce replied, “We can get the job done
but, we need a lot of money and time.”
The prince did not care how much it would cost but he needed it in a
week. He left the shop feeling unsure if
they could get it done.
Now they
had to buy lots of magic diamonds from Lee.
Luckily, Lee had a houseful of it.
So, the Duces began eating diamonds and getting fatter. Golden rings were coming out of them but no
platinum. Some were the correct design
or the correct size but none were both.
On the last
day before the prince came back, the platinum ring was “made.” A miracle! It came out the right size and had
the design but, by this time, they both tripled their weight and the house was
full of dung.
When the prince entered the shop, he
exclaimed, “What a horrible smell you have here!” The Duces just kept silent.
Mrs. Duce
handed him the ring and the prince gave them more then enough money to supply
them for life. The Duces just slept, ate
and sold their jewelry shop to buy a bigger home.
The strong
handsome prince married the beautiful princess and they lived happily, ever
after.
